La Paz International Airport is the highest international airport in the world at 4,061 meters above sea level. Because of its high altitude, the oxygen density at La Paz airport is 40% thinner than at sea level.

La Paz International Airport is located 13 kilometers southwest of La Paz, the capital of Bolivia. With 14 international routes, La Paz Airport is an important hub connecting South America, Europe and the United States. Opened in 1929, SABS invested nearly $2.3 million in the redevelopment of the main terminal in 2006. The new terminal building includes expansion, renovation and construction of baggage rooms, check-in areas and air bridges, administrative office halls, complete modernization of the international area.
